Embedding Inclusive Practice in Preschools

Builds educator confidence and capability to embed inclusive practices that support diverse neurological needs across everyday preschool learning environments.

Embedding Inclusive Practice in Preschools

Overview

Embedding Inclusive Practice in Preschools program supports ECEC services to embed inclusive, neuroaffirming practice across the whole centre. Designed for services that have completed Understanding Neurodivergence, it provides targeted support to strengthen educator capability and consistency.

Grounded in evidence-informed frameworks including SCERTS and the CIRCLE approach, the program builds educators’ skills to support children with diverse neurological profiles, including autism, ADHD and dyslexia. A coaching and capacity-building model enables educators to apply inclusive strategies within everyday routines, play-based learning, and natural environments.

Delivery comprises four structured coaching sessions (two hours each), combining group learning, practical strategy development and in-room application. Between sessions, educators undertake guided reflection and implementation activities to support sustained practice change.

The program focuses on inclusive environments, understanding behaviour as communication, and supporting social communication and emotional development. Coaching, reflective practice and collaboration with families underpin long-term impact.

Rather than introducing a separate program, this approach enhances existing preschool practice by embedding Tier 1 and Tier 2 strategies into everyday teaching, improving engagement, wellbeing and participation for all children.

Outcomes:

  • Improved educator capability to design and embed inclusive, neuroaffirming learning environments
  • Improved understanding of behaviour as communication and ability to support emotional regulation and wellbeing
  • Strengthened ability to support children’s social communication, relationships and participation
  • Sustained whole‐centre inclusive practice through coaching, reflective practice, and collaboration with families.
