Sam Scammell

Company Secretary and non-executive Director

LLB, BEc, MBA, FAICD

Sam is a non-executive director and Company Secretary. He is also a member of the Finance & Audit Committee.

I was privileged to be elected to the Kudos Board in 2019, as part of the first Director elections held by Members. During that time, I have acted as Deputy Chair, and currently hold the role of Company Secretary.

I have worked in the disability sector for nearly 10 years, and have been a long-time supporter of the co-operative/mutual model of governance for not-for-profit but for-purpose organisations. I saw a unique opportunity for Kudos to be involved in improving and expanding the delivery of services to our clients through the employee-controlled mutual model.

During my professional career, I have worked across many sectors and industries for both large organisations (SGIC, Faulding and Santos) and smaller family-owned businesses.

I spent 20 years practising as a commercial lawyer in private practice and as in-house counsel working in the areas of IP, business development and compliance/governance. I then moved into general management and CEO roles covering all functional areas of business. In the last 15 years, I’ve spent advising and mentoring smaller businesses to improve and thrive.

I am an experienced Director, being Chair of a disability employment provider for the last 5 years, Director on a disability SIL provider and also Director at TAFE SA.

Kudos has established itself as a sustainable organisation that is now ready to flourish. Having refreshed our Constitution in 2021, we are now ready to understand fully what it means to be part of an employee-controlled mutual and how we can best embody the mutual way.
