What is a public service mutual?
Search Open

A mutual is a group of people who come together to
meet a common economic, social and cultural need. Mutuals grew rapidly in post-Industrial Revolution 1830s England. Known as ‘friendly societies’ they were committed to self-help in the welfare of working people. This was the birth of the international mutual movement. There are now one billion members of retail, agricultural and social mutuals in 28 countries.

Kudos is Australia’s first mutual spun out of public service, established in 2018 by a group of people who were part of the now devolved government agency Child and Youth Services. The owner and drivers of our organisation are the highly skilled therapists and staff who work within it. This enables us to have an unmatched focus on the achievements of children and people within our community of care.

Is Kudos able to provide a diagnosis for my child?
Search Open

For young children 0-8 years old, we are the National Disability Insurance Scheme’s (NDIS) Early Childhood (EC) partner in South Australia. If you, or your child’s current medical professionals, have identified concerns about your child’s development we can further assess your child’s needs and in turn assist with accessing the NDIS (if applicable) as well as provide information, support and linkages to community and mainstream services. We cannot provide a diagnosis in these circumstances, however, but can assist with the next steps to obtaining one.

For children and young people aged 9 years and beyond, we provide a range of therapy and support services, but not a diagnosis. Once your child has been diagnosed (which is normally undertaken by a paediatrician) and approved for an NDIS plan, you may choose to access our supports and therapy services.
